Victorian walnut work writing sewing table
This is a wonderful quality antique burr walnut Victorian work, sewing or games table, circa 1860.
The tabletop, with double stop hinge, opens to reveals an adjustable green leather and gold-tooled writing slope in very good condition. Either side of the slope there are boxwood pigeonholes. One section to store letters and documents and the other for pens. Below the writing slope there is a frieze drawer with decorative foliate inlay and a working lock and key. The drawer has plenty of compartements, three of which have silk lids, that are perfect for sewing items, jewellery or games counters. Beneath the drawer there is a deep pull out sewing box/ knitting drawer with satinwood inlay to front.. Both drawers with origonal paper lining.
The table stands on solid turned and carved supports and legs with replacement castors. A turned stretcher connects both sets of legs for extra stability.
